Squarespace runs 3.6% of all websites whose CMS W3Techs can identify, three times Webflow's 1.2%. Among the top million sites the order flips: Squarespace falls to 0.3% and Webflow rises to 1.5%, then 2.3% in the top 10,000 (W3Techs, 28 October 2026). That gap is the whole story of Webflow vs Squarespace for a B2B company. Squarespace is built for small sites and does them well. Somewhere between a brochure site and a content operation, it stops.
This page finds that point. Every figure comes from the two pricing pages and the Squarespace Help Center as read on 28 October 2026, the HTTP Archive and W3Techs. We build marketing sites in Webflow, so read the bias into the framing; the numbers are the vendors' own.
Market share: big among small sites, rare among large ones
W3Techs puts Squarespace on 2.4% of all websites and Webflow on 0.8%. Broken down by traffic rank, Squarespace's share of known-CMS sites is 3.6% overall, 0.3% in the top million, 0.2% in the top 100,000, 0.3% in the top 10,000 and 0.4% in the top 1,000. Webflow's runs 1.2%, 1.5%, 1.9%, 2.3% and 2.7%. Share does not decide a platform, but it describes who already uses it: Squarespace's base is overwhelmingly small sites, and Webflow's grows with traffic.
Speed: a tie on mobile
The HTTP Archive pairs Chrome's real-user data with technology detection. An origin passes when 75% of its visits are good on LCP, CLS and INP.
| Platform | Mobile pass rate | Desktop pass rate | Mobile LCP good | Mobile INP good | Mobile origins tested |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Squarespace | 71.0% | 76.1% | 78.0% | 97.3% | 89,052 |
| Webflow | 71.3% | 82.6% | 78.6% | 88.0% | 59,483 |
| WordPress | 48.3% | 53.7% | 55.4% | 90.3% | 2,658,175 |

The sub-metrics split the difference. Squarespace is ahead on mobile INP by nine points, which suggests lighter scripting on the average site. Webflow is ahead on desktop by six. Both are more than 20 points clear of WordPress, which our Webflow vs WordPress for a B2B Marketing Site in 2026 comparison covers. Speed is not a reason to pick either.
Content model: where Squarespace stops first
Squarespace has collection pages, not a general CMS. Its help centre lists the types: blog pages and posts, course pages and lessons, calendar pages and events, portfolio pages and projects, store pages and products, and videos pages, plus album, gallery and project pages on older versions. You can have several of each, but you cannot invent a new type. The help centre documents no custom fields or reference fields.
That matters the day a B2B team wants a case study library filtered by industry, an integrations directory, a glossary or a team page that updates itself. On Webflow each of those is a Collection with its own fields, linked by reference fields. On Squarespace each becomes a blog page used for something it was not designed for, or a set of hand-built pages counting toward the page cap.
| Limit | Squarespace (any current plan) | Webflow Premium ($25 a month billed yearly) |
|---|---|---|
| Pages | 1,000 per site; 400 recommended | 300 static pages, plus CMS pages |
| Structured content | Fixed collection types; blog posts unlimited | 20,000 CMS items in 40 Collections |
| Custom fields and references | Not documented | Custom and reference fields |
| Portfolio projects | 60 per portfolio page | No separate cap |
| Items in one listing block | Summary block shows up to 30 | Collection List |
| Content API | Commerce APIs only | CMS API, 120 requests a minute |

The page cap is generous on paper. Squarespace's own advice, that more than 400 pages "may load slowly, especially on mobile devices", is the more useful number. Our largest Webflow site holds over 1,200 CMS items; on Squarespace those would have to live as blog posts or as pages, and as pages they would pass the recommended ceiling three times over. Our Webflow CMS Limits in 2026 post covers where Webflow's own ceilings sit.
SEO control: automatic versus configurable
Squarespace does technical SEO for you. It generates the sitemap, clean URLs, meta tags and structured data for blog posts, events, local business, organisation, product and website. The trade is control.
| Control | Squarespace | Webflow |
|---|---|---|
| robots.txt | One shared file; users cannot access or edit it | Robots.txt and LLMs.txt controls |
| Structured data | Automatic; built-in schemas cannot be edited or removed | Schema markup support; custom code per page |
| Canonical tags | Automatic; no documented control | Global or page-level canonical URL |
| XML sitemap | Automatic | Auto-generated, with controls |
| Redirects | URL mappings, 400 KB, about 2,500 lines | 301 redirects on paid Site plans |
| Per-item noindex | Code injection on Core and above | CMS item indexing control on Premium |

For a five-page site with no SEO lead, Squarespace's defaults are a feature. For a B2B team that has ever had a faceted URL indexed by mistake or needed a canonical pointing at a syndicated original, a robots.txt you cannot touch is a ceiling. The redirect limit is the other one. Around 2,500 lines is plenty for most sites, and Squarespace recommends deleting inactive redirects to keep the list manageable. A migration away from a large legacy site can run past it.
Editor roles and who can publish
Squarespace's Basic plan allows two contributors; Core and Advanced allow unlimited contributors at no extra cost. That is a real advantage. The roles are coarser. A Website editor "can add products, blocks, and other content to existing pages" but cannot add new pages or change styles. The Draft editor role, which can save drafts but not publish, is listed only under Enterprise site permissions. Below Enterprise there is no role for a writer whose work waits for approval.
Webflow charges per seat: a limited seat for content editing is $15 a month billed yearly ($19 monthly), a full seat $39 ($45). The Growth Workspace, $49 a month billed yearly, adds site-level roles and publishing permissions that decide who can publish which site. The Team plan, at $2,500 a month on an annual contract, adds publishing workflows and access control down to individual pages and CMS Collections. Webflow costs more per person and gives more control per person.
Languages: an add-on on both, a third party on one
Squarespace's multilingual route on version 7.1 is Weglot. Translations are edited in Weglot, and the help centre says "it's not possible to edit translations directly in Squarespace." Email Campaigns, Acuity Scheduling, third-party blocks and member login screens are not translated. Squarespace recommends language subdomains, such as es.example.com, which add hreflang tags. Weglot's Business plan covers 3 languages and 50,000 total words for $320 a year ($32 monthly); translated URLs start on the Pro plan at $870 a year.
Webflow Localize is built in. Essential costs $9 per locale a month billed yearly, for up to 3 locales with 10,000 AI-translated words per locale a month and localised SEO. Advanced costs $29 per locale, up to 10 locales, and adds localised URLs and visitor routing. One editor, one interface, one bill.
Code, integrations and leaving
Custom code. Squarespace Basic allows a basic code block and the CSS editor but no code injection. Core adds JavaScript, iFrames and site-wide or per-page code injection. Developer mode, the custom template route, is listed for version 7.0 only. Webflow allows custom code on every paid Site plan and code components on Premium.
APIs. Squarespace's published APIs are Commerce APIs: orders, products, inventory, contacts, discounts, transactions and webhooks. None of them manages blog posts or pages. Webflow's CMS API takes 120 requests a minute on Premium, so a CRM, a product database or an AI pipeline can write content directly.
Export. Squarespace exports a WordPress-format XML file containing layout pages, text and image blocks, gallery pages and one blog. Portfolio, store, index and calendar pages, video blocks, drafts and custom CSS do not export. Webflow's Core Workspace exports HTML, CSS and JavaScript, but "Dynamic content (CMS items/pages) can't be exported." Neither hands you a working site; Webflow hands over more of it.
What it costs: a worked example
Both vendors default to yearly billing. A 40-page B2B site with a blog, one marketing lead who publishes, two writers, English plus two languages and about 15,000 words of copy, so 30,000 translated words:
| Line | Squarespace | Webflow |
|---|---|---|
| Site plan | Core, $17 | Premium, $25 |
| Workspace and roles | Included | Growth, $49 |
| Two writers | Included | Two limited seats, $30 |
| Two extra languages | Weglot Business, about $27 | Localize Essential, $18 |
| Total | About $44 | $122 |
Source: Squarespace, Webflow and Weglot pricing pages, read 2026-10-28
Squarespace is cheaper by about $78 a month, roughly $940 a year. Webflow's $122 buys the controls above, not speed. Squarespace's Core rate is $27 a month billed monthly, and its pricing page says yearly billing saves up to 36%. Webflow Localize's 10,000 words per locale a month means a 15,000-word site takes two months to machine-translate on Essential.
Where Squarespace is the right answer
- The site will stay small. Under 50 pages, a blog, one or two forms, no second content type. Squarespace Core at $17 a month billed yearly does this well.
- Commerce or bookings are part of the business. Squarespace's store, invoicing and Acuity Scheduling are native. A consultancy selling workshops gets more in the box.
- Nobody owns technical SEO. If the plan is good pages and a sitemap, Squarespace's automation is a reasonable default.
- Many casual editors. Unlimited contributors on Core is cheaper than any per-seat model.
What this means for a growing B2B company: four questions
- How many content types in year three? One blog, either platform. Case studies, integrations and resources as separate filtered libraries, Webflow.
- Who owns technical SEO? If someone needs to edit robots.txt, set a canonical or remove a schema type, Webflow. If not, Squarespace's defaults are fine.
- Does anyone need approval before publishing? Below Enterprise, Squarespace has no draft-only role. Webflow Growth has publishing permissions per person.
- Will other systems write to the site? Squarespace's APIs are for commerce. If a CRM or product feed should publish content, Webflow's CMS API is the route.
Two or more pointing to Webflow means Squarespace will stop before the company does. A migration then is cheaper planned than forced, and we would scope it around the redirect map and the content model, as in our WordPress to Webflow Migration: The 30-Step Checklist. Our marketing websites page explains how we build and migrate B2B sites in Webflow.
